Beit Issie Shapiro is an Israeli children's rehabilitation center that annually helps about 30,000 patients with physical, intellectual and mental development delays and to make them full members of society. In 2011, it received the title of the most effective non-profit medical institution in Israel based on the results of Midot (an international certified system that monitors the quality of services, their safety and benefits). In 2012, Beit Issie Shapiro became an international consultant in the therapy of children with special needs in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). In 2015, the clinic received the status of a specialized medical institution from the Health Ministry of Israel.  The specialists of Shapiro clinic also help parents of these children with suggestions of how to understand the child better, how to deal with them at home, how not to pay attention to people who do not understand.

Features of the Clinic

In the center of Beit Issie Shapiro there is a special rehabilitation program for foreign patients. It is designed for children aging from 6 months to 14 years with physical, mental and intellectual disabilities.

• Consultation with a leading specialist (before coming to Israel, you need to send the entire history of the child's illness to the clinic)
• 5 days of individually selected classes and procedures lasting 4 hours (in the presence of a multilingual employee of the Center) 
• Provision of the child with the necessary means of transportation and auxiliary devices (wheelchair, verticalizer, etc.)
• Dental examination; Interpreter during procedures + translation of medical records
• Stay of the child in the playground under the supervision of the employee of the center; breakfast, complex dinner.

SENSORY REHABILITATION IN BEIT ISSIE SHAPIRO

Here, for the first time in Israel, multisensory therapy (Snoezelen) was started to cure children with central nervous system damage. During this procedure, the patient is brought into an isolated room with comfortable environment. Wet sand, sea pebbles under a pleasant light, the singing of birds or the sound of a stream is placed in the premise. The components of Snoezelen therapy are selected individually. The room is not penetrated by extraneous sounds, wind and bright light. Music and room lighting are changed by the therapist through the iPhone and iPad.?Sensory rehabilitation helps the child relax and at the same time activate the centers of the cerebral cortex, causing him to take interest in objects and sounds in the room. Here, for the first time in the country, rooms were made in Snoezelen with an interactive floor for children with disabilities.

DENTISTRY IN THE CHILDREN'S CENTER BEIT ISSIE SHAPIRO

Since 1989, the department has been providing a full range of dental services to patients with special needs. Before visiting the dentist, the child is taken to Snoezelen room. Sensory therapy allows to calm and relax the patient. After a comfortable situation in a multi-touch room, the child stops being afraid and agrees to the procedure of teeth without anesthesia (if it is not necessary). Here, all preventive, restorative and therapeutic dental procedures of varying degrees of complexity are carried out.
